Bawaal

Terms of use

Effective 18 October 2026, updated 23 October 2026 (in-app copy per app store) · By playing Bawaal you agree to these terms. Please read the content-level, 18+ and Daaru Mode sections.

Short version: Have fun, be kind, and keep it consensual. 18+ content is for adults only. Daaru Mode is for people of legal drinking age, and anyone can be Paani wala. Never drink and drive.

1. What Bawaal is

Bawaal is a free party-game app: a set of prompts, word lists and timers for groups playing together on one device. It's provided for entertainment, as-is.

2. Content levels and opt-in modes

One switch sets the level for the whole room, and you can change it anytime:

Is Besharam really 18+? Yes. Besharam is adults-only NSFW content across every game, and it's off by default. You confirm that everyone playing is 18 or older before it turns on. Drop back to Sanskari or Bindaas anytime.

Do I have to drink in Daaru Mode? Never. Daaru Mode is optional, sits behind a legal-drinking-age check, and anyone can be Paani wala. Water, chai and nimbu paani all count. Drinking ages differ across India (18 to 25), and some states are dry, so check your local law (section 4). Never drink and drive: book a cab.

Settings › Family lock hides both opt-in modes everywhere; unlocking it needs a 3-second hold. Which modes are available can differ between the web, Android and iPhone versions of Bawaal.

3. Who can use it

4. Daaru Mode and responsible drinking

  • Daaru Mode is an optional drinking-game layer. It's only for players who are of legal drinking age in the state or country where they're playing.
  • Legal drinking age in India varies by state, roughly 18 to 25. It's 18 in places like Goa; 21 in many states; 23 in Kerala; and 25 in places like Delhi and Punjab, and for spirits in Maharashtra. Alcohol is prohibited in Bihar, Gujarat, Mizoram, Nagaland and Lakshadweep (with limited permit exceptions). Rules change, so check your state's current excise law. In a dry state, or when underage, don't use Daaru Mode with alcohol.
  • Outside India: the legal drinking age is 21 in the United States and 18 in the United Kingdom. Follow the law where you're playing.
  • Nobody has to drink. Any player can be Paani wala: water, chai, nimbu paani or any soft drink counts. Never pressure anyone.
  • Sips, not chugs. Pace yourselves, eat, hydrate and stop when you've had enough. Don't play drinking games if you're pregnant, on medication that interacts with alcohol, or have a history of alcohol problems.
  • Never drink and drive. Book a cab, crash on the sofa, or pick a designated driver.
  • Bawaal doesn't sell, deliver or promote any alcohol brand.

5. Play safe

6. Content and references

Cards mention films, songs, shows, brands, places, sports people, politicians and other public figures as part of Indian pop culture, for parody, commentary and fun. That doesn't imply endorsement by, or affiliation with, any of them. Trademarks belong to their owners. We try to keep cards from punching down on anyone's religion, caste, region, gender, sexuality, body or skin colour. If a card crosses a line, report it and we'll review it.

7. Your responsibilities

You're responsible for how you and your group play, including choosing the right spice level for the room and following local laws. Don't misuse the app to harass or harm anyone.

8. No warranty, limited liability

Bawaal is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from playing, including from dares, drinking or content you choose to enable. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited under Indian law.

9. Changes and law

We may update these terms as the app grows (for example, when accounts or multi-phone rooms arrive). We'll change the effective date above and highlight big changes in the app. These terms are governed by the laws of India.

10. Licences

Fonts: Bricolage Grotesque and Anek Latin, both under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. Sounds: original to Bawaal.
